Alyssa Whicker, PA-C
Alyssa Whicker is a nationally board-certified and state-licensed physician assistant. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a major in Exercise and Sport Science and a minor in Women’s and Gender Studies. Upon graduation, she worked in various healthcare positions as a physical therapy aide, exercise physiologist, and pharmacy technician in her hometown of Durham, North Carolina. Those experiences eventually brought her to Texas where she completed her Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies at Hardin-Simmons University.
She started her career in outpatient internal medicine in Fort Worth where she learned a tremendous amount over 1.5+ years. As an internal medicine PA, she was often the first point of contact in treating a patient’s pain. She realized she wanted to see the “other side” of being a PCP. She was referring patients to pain specialists, but she wanted to see the “why” and “how” of providing interventional pain relief to patients. Thus, she wanted to hone her skills in pain management and be a provider that can attempt various methods beyond pharmacology to provide pain relief.
As a PA, Alyssa strives to build long-term relationships with patients by being an advocate for patient’s access to quality health care and ensuring patients are included in the decision-making process of their care. In her free time, Alyssa loves to watch various reality TV shows and documentaries, paint, garden, read, attend concerts, exercise, and spend time with her cat, Artemis.
