The Greater Austin Business Awards is a competition organized by the Austin Chamber of Commerce to honor excellence in business in the Greater Austin region. The competition recognizes businesses and organizations for achievements, community contributions, and milestones. A panel of independent judges selected the company finalists in the following categories: Community Relations, Customer Service, Health and Wellness, Environmental Friendly, Executive Leadership, Global Impact, Non-Profit, First Time Entrepreneur, Company Culture, and Innovation.

Direct Orthopedic Care, DOC, was a top-five finalist in the Innovation category.

As a practicing orthopedic surgeon, Dr. David Hassinger realized the need for patients to be able to access affordable, immediate orthopedic care. He created a business, Direct Orthopedic Care to achieve this goal. He explains the process: I believe in finding a better way and sharing it. It starts with an idea. I am driven to take the idea and convert it to reality through homework and experimentation. I seek the best people and often have them working outside of their comfort zones. I challenge them to innovate and find a better way. Dr. Hassinger, entrepreneur and CEO for DOC and his team are providing innovative orthopedic health care in Texas and California where patients are cared for by orthopedic specialists without the expense of the ER and time lost before treatment through the referral system. The Greater Austin Business Awards dinner on August 30 is one of the largest business awards events in Central Texas, bringing together about 1,000 business leaders, entrepreneurs, organizations, government officials, and regional chambers. DOC is pleased to be recognized for Innovation in Austin. For more information, visit the Austin Chamber’s site here.
