Therapeutic Exercises

Therapeutic exercise is a regimen of planned physical movements to prevent or remedy musculoskeletal injuries or conditions, enhance ability to participate in activities, reduce risk of injury, optimize overall health, and enhance fitness and well-being.

Therapeutic exercise may include aerobic and endurance conditioning, agility training, soft tissue stretching, and breathing, coordination, range of motion, relaxation, strength, power, and endurance exercises.

DOC physical therapists select, prescribe, and implement therapeutic exercise activities when the examination, diagnosis, and prognosis indicate the use of these activities to improve physical function and reduce pain.
